Lady Owls snap losing streak in D-9 League

Bradford High’s Lady Owls began their climb out of the District 9 League cellar Friday night, snapping a four-game losing streak with a 44-33 victory over Clearfield.

“We’re 1-4 in the league now and if we can get on a little win streak in the league we can get out of the basement,” said Doug Lloyd, Bradford coach. “Tonight’s win will give us a lot of confidence going into our league games coming up.”

Spearheading the Lady Owls’ win on their home floor was Katie White with 15 points, 9 rebounds and 7 steals.

“Katie just played great tonight,” Lloyd pointed out. “She shot the ball well and did a good job defensively. She caused them (Lady Bisons) problems for three quarters.”

Shelly Fuhrman was also in double figures for the winners with 13 points.

“Shelly shot real well tonight and Tricia Copeland got seven rebounds and had four assists, and did a nice job.” Lloyd continued.

“Our seniors are the backbone of our team and they’re getting better and better. We’ll go as far as our seniors will take us.”

Sophomore Michelle Keane also had a solid night on the boards for Bradford with eight rebounds.

The Lady Owls held a comfortable 27-11 lead at halftime and padded it with a 13-6 scoring edge in the third period.

In the fourth quarter Lloyd went to his bench and Clearfield climbed back into the game with a 16-4 edge in scoring.

“We came out and took control of the game right from the start,” Lloyd explained, noting that his team did not shoot a foul shot in the game. “They must have played pretty clean, but we dominated for three quarters. In the fourth quarter they hit a few 3s and made it closer.

“Erica Siffrinn and Katelyn Morris did a real nice job off the bench and we’re getting some scoring from Brittani Wiseman, which is nice. With her points and if we keep playing defense the way we did tonight, we’ll do well this year.

“Everyone got in the game and had chance to play. It was a good opportunity for all of our players,” he added.

High scorer for Clearfield was Jayme Ryan with 16 points.

Bradford will be idle now until next Friday when the Lady Owls travel to DuBois.
