“Little Chicago,” a movie to be filmed chiefly in McKean County, is taking shape with the likely addition of several big names and an extras audition set for Wednesday in Bradford.

The local casting call, to be held from 2 to 7 p.m. at the Grace Lutheran Church Social Hall, will see director Carl Veno and producers on hand to scout. The future gangster flick will need 1,000 to 1,500 extras, all of whom will be paid, according to Veno.

“We’re going to have parades and crowds, dance halls and ballrooms,” he said, explaining the need for so many bit parts.

Extras will be needed for townspeople, gangsters, policemen and other roles. Veno and the others will review participants’ appearance based on the needs of the movie, for which filming will start in late November.

Other unique talents, such as bartending and singing, will be needed as well, according to Veno.

“(We’re looking for a) lot of local people,” he said. “If they have the talent and they’re coming ... we’d like to get someone local in there.”

Those who have entertainment experience may bring head shots and resumes, but all are welcome to try out. Veno noted that aspiring actors will be informed on-site if they made it as an extra.

As the film is a period piece that takes place in the 1920s and early 1930s, potential extras are encouraged to show up dressed in the style of those years, if possible.

In the meantime, to build hype for the film, Allegheny Productions is putting a blue, 1920s-style car in front of its Main Street building starting today. It will remain there on a daily basis.

Veno was enthusiastic about Bradford’s big role in the movie.

“We’re getting some great response from some of the businesses,” he said. “That’s why we’re shooting 60 percent of the movie in McKean County.”

Veno even hinted that he is “strongly considering” a special showing in Bradford when the film is ready to go.

Considering the mob flick-experienced talent he’s already lined up and the excitement he displayed, Veno’s work may hit screens sooner than later.

“Vinny Pastore (of ‘The Sopranos’ fame) is on our list,” he said. “I can also tell you the very strong possibilities: Jimmy Fiore; Joey Vacchio; Armen Garo.

“We’re moving to start negotiations with Ray Liotta. (As for) Marissa Tomei, I think we lost her because she’s (currently performing) on Broadway, but those plays last a very short time, so hopefully we’ll have another chance to get her.”

Veno also supplied behind-the-camera names that he plans on working with. One is Mele Magler, known for being the casting director for “Brotherhood,” a Showtime mob drama. In addition, Veno was very excited about enlisting costume director Arlein Ryba, who worked on the Academy Award-winning film, “Seabiscuit,” as well as “Miller’s Crossing.”

Those with questions regarding the casting can contact Allegheny Productions. A separate, similar tryout will be scheduled for Olean, N.Y., in the near future.
