Local Uni-Mart and Choice stores recently closed set to open again soon

Residents in McKean, Elk, Potter and Warren counties can expect to see the lights coming on in Uni-Mart and Choice stores that have recently closed down.

The Uni-Mart stores at 76 Chestnut St. in Bradford and on the corner of Main and High streets in Sheffield are expected to open Monday, Regional Manager Malissa Riggar said Thursday.

Meanwhile, the Uni-Mart at 120 Montmorenci Ave. in Ridgway is scheduled to open Thursday, with the Choice store in Kane, on the corner of Chestnut and Fraley streets, to open next, Riggar said.

A total of eight stores will be re-opening under the corporate umbrella, Riggar said, with other re-openings include the Uni-Mart in Kane at 159 Fraley St., and the Uni-Mart in Shinglehouse at 109 North St.

The eight stores re-opening are believed to be the ones previously leased to PAD Enterprises LP, which closed the stores for reasons similar to those claimed in a January lawsuit against the parent company, a representative said in mid-September when the stores were closing.

The lawsuit claimed that Uni-Marts LLC had provided inaccurate and incomplete information to store owners when they signed long-term lease agreements. The lawsuit was settled in early October, with $2 million and other compensations being provided to store owners who continue to operate their businesses, according to an article in The Times Tribune of Scranton.

Attempts to contact representatives of PAD Enterprises LP we unsuccessful, and messages left at Uni-Marts’ corporate headquarters in State College were not returned.
