A Smethport woman has been charged with using the identity of a co-worker to use her stolen credit card, and with using checks of a person residing at the nursing home where she works.
Cynthia Ann Longstaff, 49, of 307 E. Green St., is charged with forgery, a third-degree felony; identity theft, a first-degree misdemeanor; access device fraud, a second-degree misdemeanor; and theft by unlawful taking, theft by deception and receiving stolen property, third-degree misdemeanors; in a case filed at Magisterial District Judge Dominic Cercone’s office.
Longstaff was arraigned on two cases Tuesday in front of Magisterial District Judge Rich Luther. In one case, alleging actions between May 25 and June 30, she is charged with eight counts of forgery, second-degree felonies; five counts of access device fraud and eight counts of identity theft, first-degree misdemeanors; five counts each of theft by unlawful taking, theft by deception and receiving stolen property and three counts of access device fraud, second-degree misdemeanors; six counts of theft by unlawful taking and three counts of receiving stolen property, third-degree misdemeanors.
In the other case, alleging actions between June 20 and July 14, she is charged with four counts each of forgery, second-degree felonies; bad checks, third-degree misdemeanors; and theft by deception, first-degree misdemeanors.
According to court records, during the time frame of the charges, Longstaff worked at Lakeview Senior Care Center in Smethport. She was a co-worker of Gloria Shreve and Carol Tessena.
Longstaff used Tessena’s credit card without permission at Wal-Mart in Bradford on eight occasions to purchase more than $600 in merchandise, the records read. In addition, police said that Longstaff ordered items online at Cabela’s and had them sent to her in Shreve’s name, and charged to Tessena’s credit card, the records read.
State police viewed Tessena’s credit card statement and found charges had been made at Heartstrings Gift Shop in Bradford, Walmart.com and Oriental Trading Co. Troopers searched Longstaff’s residence and found the items that had been purchased or ordered with Tessena’s card, the records indicate.
Foster Township Police also investigated Longstaff, as checks that had been stolen from Martha Neely, a resident at Lakeview, were used to purchase more than $200 in items at Wal-Mart in Bradford, the records read.
Longstaff was arraigned first by Luther and was committed to McKean County Jail in Smethport in lieu of a total of $30,000 bail. She was then arraigned before Cercone and committed to jail in lieu of $2,000 bail.
Preliminary hearings in all the matters are scheduled for Oct. 31.
