While Bradford Regional Medical Center may be “Building the Future” with ongoing renovations, it will also acknowledge its past this weekend.

The first-ever BRMC Alumni Picnic will be held Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., with a catered lunch slated for noon, in The Pavilion at BRMC’s parking area.

“We though people might be coming back (in town) for the Italian Festival, so we decided to piggyback that event,” said Bradford Hospital Foundation Director Francie Ambuske, who is helping organize the event.

The main goal of the get-together is to bring in as many former BRMC employees as possible who were instrumental in the hospital’s growth.

“The idea came as we’ve been putting together our ‘Building the Future’ campaign,” Ambuske said. “We felt it would be good to involve those who gave their time (to get BRMC to where it is today.)”

The inspiration for the picnic, in Ambuske’s eyes, came from Ed Pecht, the hospital’s new chairman of the board.

“He’s been in the community for around 30 years, so he’s seen the past. It was really his idea,” Ambuske said.

Everyone from physicians, board members, members of the Bradford Hospital Foundation and auxiliary, volunteers and other employees are invited to the reunion.

“We think we’ll have around 50 (attendees),” Ambuske said.

Those who make it can expect music, giveaways and memorabilia. Old employees can wax nostalgic while they check out their old work areas, and the new BRMC Outpatient Center will be open for touring.

The hospital’s human resource department helped develop a guest list, but Ambuske suggested they are looking for more alumni, especially for future editions of the get-together.

“Anyone else who can provide names ... We’d like to keep building on the list,” Ambuske said. “We couldn’t be where we are today without the dedication of physicians, volunteers and past employees.”

The deadline for interested alumni to RSVP has been extended to Thursday. Those who wish to do so can contact the Bradford Hospital Foundation.

Ambuske noted that those needing special accommodations in the form of dietary requests or a wheelchair are welcome and should also contact the foundation.
